Case Description

Embracing a profound symbiosis between art and functionality, we provided a comprehensive, site-wide custom furniture solution for the WJID Design Headquarters (WJID Office). This solution encompasses a curatorial-style reception lobby, an immersive design studio, a vanguard discussion zone, and exclusive executive quarters.

As a premier design firm, WJID’s requirements for its headquarters space extended far beyond the conventions of traditional office logic. The client’s core challenge lay in reconciling the inherent tension between “de-officing” the space—stripping away typical corporate trappings—and maintaining “heightened professionalism.” The objective was to evoke the ultimate minimalist purity of an art gallery, while simultaneously accommodating the storage of vast quantities of design drawings and material samples, as well as facilitating high-frequency collaborative discussions. The client’s primary concern was that the introduction of furniture might disrupt the artistic “negative space” of the architectural facades; specifically, against a backdrop of expansive exposed concrete and pristine white minimalist walls, standard office furniture lines would appear visually cluttered and fail to meet the designers’ exacting demands for ultra-long-span, obstruction-free collaborative work surfaces.

We implemented a strategy featuring “invisible integration” and structural solutions utilizing ultra-long cantilevers. For the curatorial-style long table and material display area shown in the accompanying images, we employed an integrated molding process embedded with carbon fiber. This technique allowed us to achieve ultra-thin tabletops spanning several meters without the need for intermediate supports—a design choice that perfectly echoes the architectural sensibility of the space. To address the storage dilemma, we designed a hidden, integrated cabinetry system that seamlessly matches the texture and material of the surrounding walls. All access points feature a touch-to-open, handle-free mechanism, effectively concealing a vast amount of storage capacity behind the visual plane of the walls. To counterbalance the inherent austerity of the minimalist environment, we incorporated subtle, micro-arc chamfers into the furniture edges and applied a matte, eco-friendly finish with a refined texture, ensuring that the pieces reveal nuanced artistic layers as light and shadow play across their surfaces.

The WJID founding team remarked: “This custom furniture truly fulfills our original design intent—to ‘vanish into the space.’ The ultra-long-span work surfaces not only significantly boost the efficiency of our drawing review sessions, but their minimalist visual language also serves as a powerful secondary endorsement of our firm’s design prowess.” Employee feedback echoed this sentiment: “Working within an atmosphere that feels akin to an art museum has profoundly inspired our creative process.” The client believes that what we delivered was not merely office furniture, but rather a suite of precisely realized architectural art modules—successfully crafting an immersive sanctuary of design that stands as an industry benchmark.
