Case description
All the primary interior furnishings for KLOEM Hostel—situated in Bangkok—were custom-manufactured and supplied by our factory.
The project’s context lies in the fact that the hostel was converted from an old wooden cabin; consequently, the interior spaces were characterized by numerous non-standard, irregularly shaped corners and low ceiling heights. The core challenge facing the owner was how to achieve high-density functional integration within the confined dormitory areas, while simultaneously resolving issues inherent to traditional wooden bunk beds—specifically, the structural instability and noise generated by frequent social interaction, as well as the rapid surface wear and cleaning difficulties associated with public-area furniture subjected to high-frequency turnover by a diverse international clientele.
To address these issues, we implemented a self-locking, silent structural system alongside a high-performance polymer coating solution. We developed an enhanced structural design utilizing wedge-and-tenon joinery—eliminating the need for traditional metal hardware—to completely eradicate the noise caused by stress-induced friction at connection points. Furthermore, for the public seating areas, we developed an ultra-durable, micro-crystalline surface finish featuring antimicrobial properties. This material successfully passed simulated friction tests equivalent to 30,000 seating cycles, as well as rigorous high-intensity impact resistance trials, thereby ensuring that the furniture fits seamlessly into the extremely narrow spaces while providing long-lasting, silent structural support.
The final results were remarkable: this bespoke furniture system—distinguished by its exceptional spatial efficiency and superior acoustic performance—created a deeply cocooning sleep experience for travelers from around the globe. Not only did it significantly reduce the operator’s expenses related to cleaning and furniture maintenance, but by successfully translating the aesthetics of Southeast Asian woodworking into a modern context, it also earned our factory unanimous acclaim from the hostel management for our precise ability to resolve critical spatial challenges.
