Case description
All the hotel furniture featured in the main spaces of “The Captain’s House”—a boutique guesthouse situated along the coast of Phuket—was custom-manufactured and supplied by our factory.
The project’s context was defined by the building’s extreme proximity to the beach, which subjected the furniture finishes to the intense physical abrasion caused by wind-borne sea sand. Furthermore, the owner desired to extensively incorporate curved structural elements—reflective of a distinct nautical aesthetic—throughout the interior. This presented a significant challenge, as the high-salinity, high-humidity coastal environment drastically increased the risk of surface delamination in conventional wooden furniture; moreover, standard finishing processes struggled to withstand the long-term abrasive wear of fine sand particles while simultaneously maintaining a refined, tactile surface feel.
In response, we developed a specialized surface-hardening treatment process and a bio-based multi-layer co-extrusion technology. We created a robust abrasion-resistant barrier by infusing the solid wood surfaces with high-hardness, transparent mineral micro-particles. Additionally, to accommodate the complex curved structures, we implemented a vacuum-composite molding solution designed to ensure uniform stress distribution. These solutions successfully passed rigorous testing—including high-velocity particle-jet simulations of wind-sand erosion and cyclic adhesion-strength tests under extreme humidity conditions—thereby guaranteeing that the furniture would retain its smooth tactile quality and structural integrity even after prolonged exposure to coastal winds.
The final results were outstanding. This collection of custom furniture—imbued with the dynamic spirit of nautical design—perfectly embodies the thematic soul of “The Captain’s House” through its exceptional resistance to wind and sand, combined with its enduring aesthetic of graceful curves. Not only has this significantly reduced the frequent and costly need for furniture refurbishment typically associated with seaside guesthouses, but the exquisite craftsmanship evident in every detail has also earned high acclaim from the brand owner, who praised the project as a profound resonance between technical innovation and artistic expression.
