Case Description

Located within the Shanghai Children’s Medical Center, the “Aiyou Xinsheng Baby Home” commissioned our factory to supply all furniture for its administrative and care support areas—encompassing the medical staff offices, patient care support zones, volunteer collaboration spaces, archival storage areas, and reception zones.

As a medical care center dedicated to orphaned children with medical conditions, the facility’s design draws inspiration from candles and birthday cakes, centering on the mission of bringing warmth and a sense of “new life” to the children. The core challenge lay in furnishing the space: the furniture needed to simultaneously uphold the professionalism required for medical care, ensure absolute safety for the children, and foster a warm, healing atmosphere. It had to meet the practical needs of medical staff—such as daily clinical record-keeping and patient data management—while also aligning with the “candle and birthday cake” design theme to avoid a cold, sterile aesthetic. Furthermore, it had to satisfy rigorous safety standards: ensuring that any furniture accessible to the children was free of sharp edges, constructed from non-toxic and harmless materials, and easy to clean and disinfect. Traditional office furniture typically lacks warmth, fails to meet the specific environmental and safety standards required for pediatric care, struggles to incorporate warm design elements, and ultimately fails to align with the care center’s core mission of radiating warmth and safeguarding new life. Even standard custom furniture often struggles to strike the right balance between medical professionalism and human-centered care.

Leveraging our capabilities as a direct-source manufacturing facility, we worked closely to align with the care center’s design inspiration and core mission. We selected food-grade, eco-friendly panel materials and employed a comprehensive rounded-edge finishing process to eliminate any sharp corners. All furniture underwent rigorous testing to meet child-safety environmental standards, as well as anti-bacterial, abrasion-resistance, and scratch-resistance criteria, ensuring suitability for frequent disinfection protocols. Simultaneously, we incorporated design elements such as the soft curves of candles and the warm color palettes of birthday cakes, integrating gentle lines into the furniture’s forms to balance aesthetic warmth with practical functionality. For the medical staff offices, we custom-designed multi-tiered storage cabinets for patient records and specialized desks and chairs optimized for clinical documentation tasks. The volunteer collaboration area features modular, combinable furniture designed to facilitate teamwork among multiple individuals. In the patient care support areas, the furniture was designed with a low profile and accessible layout to facilitate both the children’s daily activities and the medical staff’s caregiving duties. Throughout the entire process, we provided comprehensive, one-stop services—from design and manufacturing to installation—prioritizing every minute safety detail and the creation of a truly warm and nurturing atmosphere. Following the project’s completion, the office and care support areas exude a warm, gentle atmosphere while offering safety and convenience. The furnishings are specifically tailored to meet the specialized requirements of medical care and nursing—being non-toxic, eco-friendly, durable, and easy to clean—thereby effectively facilitating the work of medical staff. By creating a warm and healing environment for the young patients, the design embodies the philosophy of “guarding new life.”

This initiative has garnered high acclaim from the operational team, medical staff, and volunteers at the Aiyou Xinsheng (New Life) Baby Home, who praised the furniture design for precisely aligning with the care center’s mission. They noted that the meticulous attention to detail demonstrates a deep sense of humanistic care, playing a pivotal role in establishing a medical and nursing space for orphaned patients that is truly filled with warmth and compassion.
