Case description
We delivered a comprehensive custom furniture solution for Fogon Restaurant. Through a deep deconstruction of the building’s red-brick texture and industrial linear aesthetics, we achieved a holistic artistic expression that seamlessly integrates the furniture with the surrounding space.
As a restaurant defined by a core visual language of extensive suspended red-brick arrays, the project faced two primary challenges: managing an “extremely complex sense of visual gravity” and mitigating “interior acoustic interference.” The client’s specific pain points were twofold: while the vast expanses of brickwork and metal mesh structures within the space created a powerful visual impact, they also resulted in severe high-frequency echo reverberation; furthermore, the high-density arrangement of the brick-red palette tended to induce visual fatigue in guests. Additionally, a critical challenge lay in how to introduce furniture—capable of providing a sense of luxurious enclosure without compromising visual transparency—into a hard-edged, intensely industrial architectural environment, thereby maintaining the delicate balance between privacy and openness essential for high-end dining.
Our solution involved implementing a strategy centered on low-gravity acoustic soft furnishings and linear visual attenuation. To address the acoustic challenges, we custom-designed leather banquettes featuring internal sound-absorbing cavity structures; utilizing porous acoustic foam embedded within the furniture, these pieces effectively absorbed mid-to-low-frequency noise, thereby dampening the harsh sound reflections generated by the brick walls. In terms of form, we developed an ultra-fine metal frame support system, allowing the dining chairs and bar stools to present minimalist geometric lines that perfectly echo the rhythmic cadence of the interior’s metal gridwork, thereby avoiding any sense of visual bulk or clutter. Regarding color balance, we selected dark-hued, matte-textured upholstery and low-sheen timber finishes; through the strategic introduction of these cool-toned materials, we precisely counterbalanced the potentially overwhelming warmth and visual “dryness” of the red brick, thereby cultivating a serene and tranquil atmosphere within the core dining zones.
The Fogon operations team offered the following feedback: “This custom furniture collection successfully transformed a previously ‘cold and hard’ industrial architectural shell into a dining space imbued with genuine ‘warmth.’ In particular, the exceptional acoustic tranquility achieved in the banquette area provides guests with an ideal environment for conversation. The linear proportions of the furniture establish a perfect vertical dialogue with the suspended red-brick ceiling, lending the entire space a profound sense of structural logic and cohesion.” The property owner added: “By exercising rigorous control over material density and color tonality, we delivered far more than just tables and chairs; through the strategic integration of this furniture, we have transformed the entire building into a premier artistic venue—one distinguished by superior acoustic performance and rich visual layering.”
