Case description

The Sheraton Colombo Hotel stands as a landmark luxury business hotel in the heart of downtown Colombo, distinguished by a core design philosophy that seamlessly blends modern urban business aesthetics with tropical coastal charm. Our factory served as the exclusive supplier for the entire suite of custom-made furniture—spanning guest rooms, executive suites, all-day dining restaurants, lobby lounges, and conference spaces—throughout the hotel.
During the project’s initial stages, the client faced a unique set of challenges. Given Sri Lanka’s tropical maritime climate—characterized by year-round high temperatures, high humidity, heavy salt mist, and intense UV radiation—standard furniture is highly susceptible to moisture damage, mold growth, wood expansion and deformation, as well as fabric fading and deterioration. Furthermore, as a property under the Sheraton brand, the hotel was required to strictly adhere to global, standardized “business-luxury” design guidelines while simultaneously integrating distinct local tropical elements—a task that presented significant difficulty in balancing brand standardization with regional localization. The hotel’s diverse functional areas—including guest rooms, suites, dining venues, lounges, and conference facilities—demanded furniture solutions for multiple scenarios; these pieces needed to align with a unified brand tonality while adapting to the specific scale and usage requirements of each distinct space. Sourcing furniture across disparate categories from multiple vendors risked creating stylistic fragmentation and inconsistent quality. Moreover, the unique environment of Colombo—a bustling port city—imposed rigorous demands on the furniture’s moisture resistance, corrosion protection, and overall weather durability.
Leveraging our factory’s specialized system for crafting custom furniture for tropical business hotels, we developed targeted solutions to effectively address these complex challenges. The furniture design palette centers on sophisticated wood tones, refined gray shades, and vibrant tropical accent colors, featuring clean, elegant lines that successfully preserve the Sheraton brand’s signature “business-luxury” aesthetic while infusing the bright, spirited character of a tropical coastal setting. To combat the local environment’s high heat and humidity, all solid wood furniture underwent specialized stabilization treatments to prevent moisture absorption and expansion. Furniture designated for outdoor areas and public spaces was constructed using weather-resistant panel materials and fabrics treated for UV protection, water repellency, and stain resistance, while all metal hardware received multi-layer anti-rust and anti-corrosion treatments to comprehensively enhance weather durability. For guest rooms, we custom-crafted sturdy bed frames and multi-functional desks; for dining areas and lounges, we designed comfortable, durable tables, chairs, and modular sofas; and for conference spaces, we provided ergonomic meeting furniture—ensuring that the specific, high-frequency usage demands of each distinct setting were fully met. Throughout the entire process, we upheld the brand’s unified quality control standards and managed production and delivery through a single, integrated workflow, thereby guaranteeing exceptional consistency in craftsmanship, color tonality, and overall quality across the entire furniture collection. Following the project’s completion, our entire furniture collection harmonized perfectly with the hotel’s tropical-business aesthetic. The design style remained consistent across all areas—from guest rooms to public spaces—and proved to be remarkably stable and durable even in a persistently high-humidity environment, resisting mold, deformation, and fading while requiring minimal maintenance. The hotel management expressed their high satisfaction, commending us for striking a precise balance between brand standardization and the integration of local cultural flair. Furthermore, they praised us for effectively resolving the core challenges inherent to tropical coastal hotels—namely, the rapid aging of furniture, the difficulty of unifying styles across diverse settings, and the need for durability in high-humidity climates—thereby establishing a benchmark project for Sheraton in the South Asian market that embodies both exceptional quality and a strong sense of place.
As a primary manufacturer of furniture for tropical business hotels, we specialize in the integrated design of brand standardization and localization, weather-resistant manufacturing processes tailored for high-humidity tropical climates, stylistic consistency across all hotel zones, and efficient project delivery.
