Case description

For this private residence situated in the Sunset Cove community of Irvine, California, our factory custom-manufactured and supplied the entire suite of furnishings—including furniture, lighting fixtures, mattresses, rugs, artwork, and decorative accessories.

The client’s primary challenge stemmed from the home’s prime location, which offered spectacular sunset views; however, prolonged exposure to intense, low-angle ultraviolet radiation caused severe indoor glare and led to rapid, localized temperature spikes during twilight hours. Consequently, traditional furniture fabrics often felt uncomfortably hot and dry to the touch. Furthermore, the client held exacting standards regarding the color fidelity of the interior spaces across varying light temperatures—a requirement that conventional mass-produced furniture struggled to meet amidst such extreme fluctuations in light and heat.

To address these issues, we developed a system featuring “intelligent spectral-response finishes” and a “bio-based thermal regulation system.” We embedded microencapsulated phase-change materials into the fibers of the custom furniture and rugs, utilizing passive thermal sensing to maintain a consistently comfortable surface temperature. Additionally, in collaboration with an optical laboratory, we applied a non-linear, fade-resistant coating to all artwork and decorative objects. Following thousands of hours of accelerated aging tests using high-energy xenon lamps, we ensured that these pieces would retain their low-glare properties and high color fidelity even under the most intense sunlight exposure.

Upon the project’s final completion, this highly intelligent and dynamic spatial system successfully resolved the physical challenges associated with thermal and light overload in a luxury sunset-view residence. From custom mattresses offering a sensation of deep, cloud-like comfort to artistic lighting fixtures with precision light control, every element captures the aesthetic beauty of the sunset while delivering unparalleled physical comfort. The client praised the design for not only preserving the magic of the sunset hour but also—through the innovative application of material science—transforming their home into an artistic sanctuary that remains impervious to harsh light exposure and retains its gentle, pristine ambiance at all times.
