Our factory provided a comprehensive custom furniture solution for The Star Casino restaurant, covering the central open-plan sushi bar dining area, the fluidly curved general seating zones, semi-private scenic booths, and exclusive VIP art-themed private rooms. Our key products included custom carbon-black solid wood dining tables, gradient-hued leather upholstered chairs, streamlined solid wood slat screens, and marble bars finished with metal edging. By deeply integrating Japanese minimalist Zen aesthetics with the atmosphere of a modern luxury casino, we achieved a perfect balance between sensory material depth and top-tier commercial durability within the space—a setting crafted by Mim Design to possess a distinct rhythm of light and shadow.

The core challenge inherent in this project’s context lay in two key areas: the extreme wear and tear caused by high-intensity foot traffic typical of a casino environment, and the exacting demands placed on material textures within a dimly lit, dramatic space. The client’s primary pain points were as follows: as the culinary centerpiece of one of Sydney’s premier casinos, the restaurant operates 24 hours a day with an exceptionally high table turnover rate; consequently, standard commercial furniture would be highly susceptible to surface abrasion and structural instability under such heavy usage. Furthermore, given the space’s predominantly dim ambiance and dramatic lighting design, the owner was concerned that dark-colored furniture might lose its visual detail in low-light conditions, appearing merely as textureless “black blocks.” Additionally, the extensive use of curved spatial contours posed a significant challenge to the seamless assembly of the furniture, as even the slightest gap or imperfection would be starkly exposed under the focused beams of the spotlights.

To address these challenges, our factory implemented a dual strategy involving carbonized structural reinforcement and optically enhanced textured finishes. To tackle the issue of high-intensity usage, we developed a composite solid wood technology featuring an internal aluminum alloy framework. This innovation preserves the warm, tactile quality of solid wood while ensuring exceptional structural rigidity—a durability validated by rigorous testing involving 50,000 structural impact cycles designed to simulate the high-stress environment of a casino. Regarding visual optimization, we introduced a technique combining deep manual carbonization (inspired by the *Shou Sugi Ban* method) with a micro-particle metal glaze finish. This process enables the wood grain to reflect a subtle, silky sheen under low-light conditions, thereby enhancing the furniture’s three-dimensional depth and visual presence. To address the complexity of the curved booth seating, we employed high-precision 3D bentwood molding technology to create seamless, fluid structures—each spanning up to four meters in length. Furthermore, the medical-grade stain-resistant leather used was subjected to rigorous penetration testing, ensuring that it can self-clean within seconds of contact with substances such as red wine or grease.

The project results demonstrate that the custom furniture successfully serves as an elegant visual backdrop within the space; its restrained color palette and refined textures create a perfect textural counterpoint to the massive art installations featured in the interior.
