Case description

For this project—the Kharek Restaurant in Kharkiv, Ukraine—our factory custom-manufactured and supplied all the furniture for the core dining area, the central circular booth section, the perimeter loose seating area, and the open-style bar. The space seamlessly blends the elegant aesthetic of a French villa with a modern industrial style, utilizing warm wood finishes, handcrafted blue-green patterned tiles, and warm-orange upholstered elements to create a multifaceted dining atmosphere that caters equally to family gatherings and casual social interactions.

The primary challenge of this project lay in achieving textural consistency and visual balance across multiple distinct zones within a mixed-style environment. The client required furniture that would harmonize with a variety of textures—including woodwork, patterned tiles, and metal accents—while simultaneously avoiding color clashes between different areas. Furthermore, the open-plan layout necessitated lightweight furniture designs that would not appear visually heavy or oppressive; given the high-traffic nature of the venue, special attention was required to address the potential for wear and tear on upholstery and scratches on solid wood surfaces—issues that standard off-the-shelf furniture models could not adequately resolve while meeting the design’s rigorous standards for detail and proportion.

To address these challenges, we implemented a strategy focused on textural harmonization and lightweight modular design. Through multiple rounds of physical prototyping, we meticulously calibrated upholstery color tones and wood grain patterns, creating custom fabrics specifically tailored to match the blue-green tiles and the dominant warm-orange color palette. We selected highly durable, stain-resistant leather and hardened solid wood substrates, subjecting them to rigorous abrasion, scratch resistance, and load-bearing tests to ensure long-term durability. For the open dining areas, we designed furniture featuring slender steel frames and open-backrest structures to minimize visual bulk and enhance the spatial sense of openness. We maintained strict oversight throughout the entire process—from custom manufacturing to on-site installation—to ensure that the furniture integrated naturally and seamlessly with the diverse array of textures within the space. Upon completion of the installation, the venue achieved a cohesive and harmonious aesthetic; the various zones were clearly defined yet visually integrated, the open areas felt airy and unencumbered, and daily maintenance remained simple and convenient—perfectly balancing the elegance of French design with the practical functionality of the industrial style.
