Case description
The hotel furnishings featured in the main spaces of this Chiang Mai-based guesthouse—a property exuding the authentic charm of a traditional fishing village—were custom-manufactured and supplied entirely by our factory.
Given the project’s context—a guesthouse situated in close proximity to riverine wetlands—the primary challenge we faced was the issue of rising damp caused by seasonal fluctuations in the river’s water levels. This phenomenon subjected the furniture legs in the ground-floor guestrooms to a state of constant, extreme humidity saturation throughout the year. Furthermore, the owner sought to capture the rustic, time-worn aesthetic of an ancient fishing village; consequently, the furniture was required not only to withstand water exposure but also to resolve the inherent difficulties associated with natural aged timber—specifically, its susceptibility to cracking and warping under varying moisture content levels.
To address these challenges, we implemented a combination of hydrophobic polymer root-sealing technology and a dynamic internal stress equilibrium strategy. We embedded an invisible, nanoscale moisture barrier into the furniture’s contact points with the floor to effectively interrupt capillary water absorption. Additionally, we subjected the timber to a rigorous, multi-week vacuum-cycle moisture-balancing regimen—calibrated specifically to Chiang Mai’s local climate—and incorporated structural design features that allowed for pre-calculated contraction compensation. This ensured that the furniture would maintain perfect physical stability and structural integrity, even when exposed to alternating extremes of humidity.
The final results were outstanding: this bespoke furniture system, with its organic and rustic aesthetic, blended seamlessly into the natural narrative of the fishing village setting. It not only completely alleviated the owner’s concerns regarding potential decay in the ground-floor furniture but also garnered unanimous acclaim from the guesthouse management for its warm, enduring structural reliability. Ultimately, we successfully assisted our client in creating a waterfront retreat that is both low-maintenance and imbued with a profound sense of human warmth and cultural authenticity.
