Case description
For this Modern American-style residence located in Chiang Mai, all custom-made furniture and soft furnishings were supplied entirely through our factory and supply chain network.
The project was initiated to address a specific challenge: while the homeowner wished to preserve the rich historical gravitas characteristic of American design, they also needed to mitigate the inherent risks associated with traditional solid-wood American furniture in Chiang Mai—a region prone to seismic activity. Specifically, the furniture’s high center of gravity and rigid structural integrity posed safety hazards regarding tipping, as well as risks of structural cracking. Furthermore, the interior’s extensive use of exposed wooden ceiling beams, combined with carpets and decorative accents, created a visual fragmentation in color palettes, making it difficult to achieve the unique aesthetic balance—at once rugged and refined—that defines the Modern American style.
To resolve these issues, we implemented a system featuring flexible damping structures and a spectrum-consistent color scheme. We embedded concealed reinforcement components—capable of compensating for seismic displacement—at all joints and connection points of large cabinetry and furniture pieces. Additionally, we established a closed-loop color control system—calibrated under a standard D65 light source—to ensure color consistency across all project elements, including metal finishes on light fixtures, picture frames, and mattress fabric textures. These solutions successfully passed dynamic structural stability tests simulating a magnitude 5 earthquake, as well as physical shear-resistance tests designed for heavy American-style furniture constructed from wood with varying moisture content levels.
The final outcome was highly successful. This comprehensive interior space—seamlessly integrating deeply supportive mattresses, vintage industrial lighting, and custom-commissioned artwork—not only completely eliminated the safety hazards associated with large-scale furniture but also garnered high praise from the homeowner. Through our precise mastery of aesthetic color logic and our robust commitment to structural safety, we demonstrated our unique technical capability to adapt and elevate classic design styles within a specific local context.
