Qabu – One&Only One Za’abeel

Case description

Our factory was responsible for the end-to-end custom manufacturing and supply of all movable furniture—including pieces for the main dining area, bar counter, and private dining rooms—at Qabu, a restaurant located within the One&Only One Za’abeel hotel in Dubai. As a Michelin-starred restaurant featuring an Andalusian aesthetic and situated within a cantilevered skybridge suspended 100 meters above ground, this project imposed exceptionally rigorous demands regarding cultural authenticity, structural lightweighting, and commercial durability.

During the project’s initial phase, the client faced several distinct challenges: The restaurant’s ambiance was defined by classical curves and geometric motifs—elements that standard mass-produced furniture could not adequately replicate in terms of artisanal craftsmanship and tactile warmth. Furthermore, the high-altitude cantilevered structure imposed strict weight limitations on the furnishings; traditional solid wood, being excessively heavy, could not meet the stringent fire safety regulations required for high-rise buildings. Additionally, given the frequent exposure to beverages at the bar and the intensive usage within the private dining rooms, surfaces were prone to corrosion and upholstery to wear; ordinary materials would struggle to maintain a luxurious aesthetic over the long term. Finally, there was a risk that the distinct styles of the three functional zones—the main dining area, bar, and private rooms—might appear disjointed, failing to create a cohesive spatial narrative.

Leveraging our factory’s exclusive system of precision craftsmanship, we delivered a comprehensive, integrated solution. The furniture frames were constructed using lightweight, high-strength composite wood, utilizing a combination of CNC cold-bending and meticulous hand-finishing techniques to precisely replicate the restaurant’s signature Andalusian curves. All base materials met the B1 fire-retardant standard, effectively balancing safety requirements with the need for weight reduction. For the dining area tabletops, we applied a microcrystalline coating resistant to both alcohol and scratches; for the bar and private dining upholstery, we selected high-density, abrasion-resistant, and antimicrobial fabrics designed to resist deformation and fading even under heavy, long-term use. Concurrently, we custom-fabricated decorative elements—such as patterned screens and sculptural partitions—that harmonized perfectly with the lines and materials of the tables and chairs, thereby achieving a seamless artistic integration between the furniture and the surrounding space.

Upon the project’s completion, the overall aesthetic achieved a high degree of stylistic unity, perfectly aligning artistic vision with design intent while simultaneously satisfying the structural load requirements of the high-rise architecture, fire safety regulations, and the demands of high-frequency commercial use. Both the hotel management and the design team lauded our work, acknowledging that our factory had achieved a perfect equilibrium between cultural aesthetics, structural compliance, and commercial durability—thereby truly realizing the intrinsic value of custom craftsmanship for a world-class luxury restaurant.
