At the project’s inception, the client faced distinct challenges: the tropical climate of Koh Samui—characterized by high humidity, intense UV radiation, and heavy salt spray—causes standard outdoor furniture to suffer rapid deterioration, such as wood cracking, wicker embrittlement, fabric fading, and metal corrosion, resulting in prohibitively high long-term maintenance costs. Furthermore, with the hotel’s design anchored in a “natural minimalism” aesthetic, furniture pieces—such as pool loungers, lounge sofas, and umbrella bases—needed to harmonize with the white architecture, indigenous greenery, and azure swimming pools to create a cohesive coastal resort ambiance; standard off-the-shelf furniture simply could not meet these specific design requirements. Simultaneously, given the hotel’s high guest volume, the outdoor furniture endures extremely heavy usage; consequently, there were stringent demands for structural stability as well as stain resistance and ease of cleaning for upholstered elements. Moreover, furniture across various zones needed to accommodate diverse functions—ranging from lounging and relaxation to socializing—making it a complex task to strike the right balance between stylistic unity and functional adaptability.
