We delivered a comprehensive custom furniture solution for the restaurant at Central The Original Store, paying homage to the historical roots of Bangkok’s Charoen Krung district through a deep exploration of material essence.

As a revitalization project for the legendary birthplace of Central Group, the core challenge lay in achieving a “material balance for a cross-temporal narrative.” The client’s primary pain point was the need for the space to seamlessly blend the vintage retail memories of the 1950s with a contemporary minimalist architectural context. However, traditional vintage furniture often possesses a heavy visual bulk that would disrupt the slender proportions envisioned by the master architect, while standard modern furniture struggles to convey the brand’s profound historical depth. Furthermore, Bangkok’s hot and humid climate imposed stringent stability requirements on the extensive use of natural wood and textiles; the owner’s greatest concern was solving the dilemma of how to preserve the raw, rustic tactility of the materials while ensuring the furniture remained free from deformation or discoloration under the rigors of high-traffic commercial use.

We implemented a strategy involving both structural aesthetic translation and environmental durability enhancement. To achieve stylistic fusion, we sourced natural-grain teak and reclaimed timber, employing a combination of hand-splitting techniques and precision mortise-and-tenon joinery. This approach preserved the raw surface texture of the materials—imparting the rustic visual quality of the mid-20th century—while simultaneously endowing the structures with geometric purity. To address the climatic challenges, we subjected all wooden components to deep carbonization stabilization and a botanical oil sealing treatment, effectively preventing fiber expansion and mold growth in the humid, hot environment. For the seating arrangements, we selected woven materials in a low-saturation, natural color palette, paired with invisibly reinforced metal frames; this design ensured structural stability while cultivating a serene, artistic atmosphere that transcends the passage of time.
