Case description
For Café MX, our factory provided a comprehensive, bespoke furniture solution covering the tiered communal seating area, the central circular coffee bar, the linear window-side counter, and the semi-private booth zones. Our key deliverables included geometrically faceted coffee tables, modular upholstered tiered seating, high-precision steel-framed bar stools, and integrated stone-clad countertops. By deeply integrating the rugged texture of industrial concrete with refined, modern geometric lines, we achieved an artistic equilibrium between raw aesthetics and exquisite craftsmanship.
A core challenge inherent in the project’s context lay in the vertical utilization of space within a non-standard ceiling height environment, alongside the need to visually “lighten” the structural appearance of heavy-industrial-style furniture. The client’s primary pain points stemmed from the interior’s exceptionally high ceilings—which were crisscrossed with exposed original utility piping. If the furniture pieces were too bulky, they risked making the ground-level space feel oppressive and chaotic; conversely, if the furniture profiles were too slender, they would fail to establish a visual counterweight to the massive, raw concrete columns dominating the space. Furthermore, the design of the tiered seating area demanded furniture with exceptional structural discretion—specifically, the ability to remain steadfastly stable over the long term, despite the constant vibrations generated by heavy foot traffic ascending and descending the steps. The owner was particularly concerned that conventional timber joinery or metal components might suffer from structural loosening due to the extreme cycles of humidity and dryness characteristic of Moscow’s climate.
To address these challenges, our factory implemented a system featuring concealed tri-axial structural supports combined with high-strength aerospace-grade aluminum composites. To ensure the stability of the tiered seating area, we developed custom-engineered, embedded damping connectors; these components securely anchor all bespoke benches to the underlying tiered structure via tri-axial force regulators, thereby effectively neutralizing the impact of floor vibrations on the furniture’s structural integrity. In terms of material application, we selected aerospace-grade cold-drawn aluminum alloy—rather than traditional steel—for the internal frameworks of the high stools and bar counters. This choice not only significantly reduced the visual bulk of the furniture but also, as verified through dynamic load testing, ensured exceptional torsional rigidity. For the countertops, we introduced a micro-crystalline graphite sealing technology to endow the stone surfaces with superior impermeability; furthermore, we subjected the surfaces to simulated impact tests involving 2,000 high-frequency strikes with cutlery to ensure that, beneath their minimalist visual aesthetic, they possessed a core durability of true industrial-grade quality.
The project’s outcome demonstrates that the bespoke furniture successfully transcended its functional role to become a fluid, architectural texture within the space—its cool, gray-toned materials establishing a captivating textural dialogue with the industrial vestiges preserved on the surrounding walls. Client Review: By ingeniously concealing its intricate mechanical structure, the factory delivered a furniture system that resembles a work of sculpture. This not only resolved the safety concerns associated with the seating’s large spans and unconventional geometry but, through the utmost precision in material execution, also faithfully realized the studio’s highest aspirations for modern industrial aesthetics.
