Old Thorns Hotel & Resort is a premier golf destination nestled in the English countryside, positioned around a core concept of natural pastoral charm and a relaxed holiday experience. Our factory served as the exclusive supplier for the entire suite of custom-made loose furniture—spanning guest rooms, signature loft suites, restaurants, bars, and public lounge areas.
During the project’s initial stages, the client faced a unique set of challenges: the resort’s architecture featured numerous pitched-roof loft structures with complex layouts and varying ceiling heights, making it difficult to adapt standard mass-produced furniture to these unique spatial dimensions and presenting significant hurdles for custom fabrication. Furthermore, the humid and rainy climate of the English countryside posed a risk to wooden furniture—making it susceptible to moisture damage, mold, warping, and cracking—while fabrics were prone to aging and fading. The hotel aimed to embody an authentic, rustic countryside retreat aesthetic, requiring a design approach that blended the warmth of natural wood textures with minimalist simplicity, all while complementing the relaxed atmosphere of a golf resort. Finally, given the functional diversity across guest rooms, dining areas, bars, and public spaces, there was a risk of stylistic fragmentation across different settings, making it challenging to create a cohesive and unified overall ambiance.
Leveraging our in-house manufacturing capabilities and specialized customization system for boutique resorts, we developed targeted solutions to effectively address these challenges. Our furniture designs centered on warm, natural wood tones and soft upholstery, featuring clean, comfortable lines that perfectly echoed the relaxed, pastoral character of the countryside setting. To counter the local humid climate, all solid wood furniture underwent specialized stabilization treatments to prevent moisture absorption and structural deformation; similarly, fabrics were selected for their durability, stain resistance, and ease of cleaning, thereby significantly enhancing their resilience against environmental factors. For the unique loft spaces, we custom-designed low-profile bed frames, desks, and storage units specifically tailored to fit beneath the pitched roofs, thereby maximizing spatial efficiency. Furniture for the restaurants and bars was designed to strike a balance between a relaxed social atmosphere and commercial-grade durability, ensuring continued comfort and stability even under high-frequency usage. Throughout the entire process, we maintained strict, unified control over material selection and color palettes, ensuring both stylistic consistency and adherence to the project timeline.
Upon the project’s completion, the entire furniture collection integrated seamlessly with the resort’s pastoral holiday aesthetic. From the loft guest rooms to the dining areas and bars, a warm, rustic atmosphere permeated every space. Furthermore, the furniture has proven exceptionally durable and stable during long-term operation—remaining free from mold and structural deformation—resulting in minimal maintenance costs. The hotel management expressed their high commendation, praising us for precisely adapting our designs to the unique architectural spaces. Furthermore, they acknowledged that we successfully resolved key pain points—specifically, the lack of furniture durability in humid climates and the challenge of unifying stylistic themes across diverse settings—thereby creating a benchmark project for Old Thorns Resort that seamlessly blends natural aesthetics with practical functionality.
