Case Description

Our factory supplied the furniture for the primary spaces within the Jiangfan Campus of Shanghai Xiangming Junior High School in Chongming District.

We provided a comprehensive, custom-tailored office furniture solution for the school, encompassing the “Green Innovator” Laboratory, digital teaching and research offices, open-plan teacher-student interaction lounges, and the eco-library reading area. Key products included modular, multi-functional collaboration tables; height-adjustable teacher workstations; acoustically optimized mobile partitions; and storage locker systems constructed from eco-friendly composite materials. By deeply integrating Xiangming Junior High School’s century-old heritage with the “Green Innovator” philosophy of Chongming Eco-Island, we successfully achieved a balance between academic rigor and ecological creativity within a campus environment characterized by striking modern aesthetics.

A primary challenge inherent in the project’s background was determining how to create a brand-new, green ecological campus that could simultaneously accommodate the traditional teaching models of a prestigious institution while providing the spatial flexibility required by innovative educational initiatives. Furthermore, we had to address the specific difficulties posed by the island’s humid climate—which can cause wooden furniture to warp—and meet extremely rigorous environmental safety standards. The client’s specific pain points stemmed from the school’s role as the hub for the “Green Innovator” program; teaching scenarios frequently shifted between independent study, group competitions, and large-scale project presentations, yet traditional, heavy classroom furniture hindered the rapid reconfiguration of space. Concurrently, parents and school administrators were highly sensitive to the levels of formaldehyde and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the furniture introduced to the new campus. Consequently, there was an urgent need for a smart office furniture solution capable of both withstanding the high humidity of the Chongming region and meeting the most exacting environmental safety standards.

To address these challenges, our factory implemented a dual strategy involving bio-based eco-friendly finishes and lightweight structural designs inspired by biomimetics. Regarding environmental safety and weather resistance, we made extensive use of formaldehyde-free straw-fiber composite panels and plant-oil-based surface protective coatings. These materials underwent rigorous accelerated aging tests involving constant temperature and humidity cycling, as well as real-time air quality monitoring within a high-precision environmental chamber, ensuring that the furniture remains structurally stable and odor-free even within the island’s unique climatic conditions. In terms of functional innovation, we introduced a honeycomb-core aluminum frame technology; this allowed our large collaboration tables to retain exceptional load-bearing capacity while reducing their weight by 40%. Combined with silent, omnidirectional casters, this design enables teachers and students to reconfigure the classroom layout in a matter of seconds, precisely meeting the dynamic spatial requirements of their “Green Innovator” projects. For the teaching and research offices, we customized desktops featuring a multi-dimensional visual protection design and a low-reflectance surface. These surfaces successfully passed diffuse reflection coefficient testing, effectively alleviating visual fatigue among teachers working within a digitalized teaching environment.

The project results demonstrate that the customized furniture successfully served as the tangible innovative foundation supporting the campus’s “Green Visionaries” initiative; its fresh, natural wood tones and dynamic forms perfectly align with the campus’s identity as an eco-friendly educational environment. The client commended the manufacturer for deeply integrating educational ecology with materials science to deliver a campus furniture system characterized by exceptional flexibility and uncompromising safety. This system not only resolved environmental safety concerns following the rapid handover of the new campus but also, through its highly scalable design, reserved ample physical space to facilitate the future exploration of interdisciplinary teaching methodologies.
