Case description
Our factory provided a comprehensive, custom furniture solution for the main dining areas of the Swissôtel Jakarta restaurant. By deeply reinterpreting Art Deco lines and integrating them with modern industrial materials, we created a dining space of exceptional visual depth within this iconic Indonesian landmark.
A core challenge inherent to the project’s context lay in managing the visual imbalance—and the communication barriers caused by acoustic hard reflections—generated beneath the restaurant’s soaring, vaulted ceilings. The client’s primary pain points stemmed from the building’s interior architecture: the extensive use of vaulted ceilings and metal grilles caused sound waves to continuously stack and amplify within the space, resulting in severe reverberation interference. Furthermore, the sheer scale of the room threatened to render the furniture visually insignificant, making it difficult to maintain the sense of substantiality and intimate enclosure expected of a high-end hotel restaurant. To address these challenges, our factory implemented a solution featuring acoustically integrated booth seating and a modular steel-frame support system. Regarding acoustic management, we developed backrest modules embedded with high-density sound-absorbing cotton; by seamlessly integrating these modules into the custom leather booths, we transformed the furniture itself into a low-frequency sound absorber—a capability that successfully passed rigorous environmental sound-field equalization tests during the prototyping phase. To address the issue of spatial scale, we adopted a large-format, modular structural design. We equipped the round tables and curved sofas with concealed steel bases to ensure structural durability and resilience against the fatigue associated with high-frequency usage. Additionally, we applied hand-rubbed, brushed metal finishes that, under varying light conditions, create a subtle diffused reflection, thereby softening the cold, austere aesthetic typically associated with hard materials.
The project’s outcome demonstrated that the custom furniture successfully anchored the space against the building’s imposing architectural presence. It not only established clear functional zones visually but also significantly enhanced the dining environment’s acoustic quality through the sound-absorbing properties of the materials employed. The client remarked: “By applying cross-disciplinary innovations to the physical properties of the furniture, we successfully resolved the long-standing challenge of noise reduction in large-scale dining environments. We have delivered a custom system that embodies both sculptural beauty and uncompromising comfort.” The key products supplied included custom round tables, curved velvet booths, decorative grille screens, and leather bar stools, covering the high-ceilinged main hall, semi-private booth areas, the bar lounge, and the vaulted corridor zones.
