Case description
Synthesizing the cultural heritage of the Lingnan water towns with the aesthetic sensibilities of modern luxury living, we provided the Foshan Qiandeng Lake Villa with a comprehensive, integrated delivery solution encompassing custom furniture, lighting, mattresses, rugs, wall art, and decorative accessories.
Situated amidst the core waterways of Foshan, the project addressed a central challenge: the inherent tension experienced by traditional business families regarding the blurring boundaries between social and private spheres, coupled with their deep emotional attachment to traditional hardwood materials. The client faced a specific dilemma: given that the villa frequently hosts both family gatherings and high-level business receptions, how could one achieve a visual coexistence—within the same physical space—between “traditional Confucian propriety” and a “modern minimalist lifestyle”? Furthermore, given Foshan’s long summers and high atmospheric salinity, the client’s concerns extended beyond the physical durability of the furniture; they were equally focused on avoiding the cumulative formaldehyde off-gassing that often results from extensive soft furnishings, thereby ensuring an absolutely healthy living environment for a multi-generational household.
In response, we implemented a strategy involving the cultural translation of materials alongside a “full-lifecycle formaldehyde purification” program. To resolve the aesthetic conflict, we eschewed the heavy, cumbersome forms typical of traditional mahogany furniture. Instead, we distilled the linear elegance of traditional Lingnan woodwork, utilizing high-strength aerospace-grade aluminum combined with real wood veneer techniques to craft a furniture system that embodies an “Eastern spirit” while maintaining structural lightness—thereby resolving the common issue of structural sagging in large-span furniture pieces. To address health imperatives, we applied bio-based, formaldehyde-free adhesive technologies to all custom mattresses, rugs, and upholstered furniture. Additionally, prior to physical delivery, we subjected all materials to a comprehensive pre-treatment process utilizing photocatalytic technology to initiate the degradation of potential contaminants. The lighting design was infused with the artistic theme of “Shadows Falling on the Lantern Lake,” employing a dynamic color-temperature control system to automatically modulate the spatial ambiance in response to evolving family and social scenarios.
Testimonial from the Owner of Qiandeng Lake Villa: “This comprehensive design solution precisely captured the emotional core of a Lingnan family. The space exudes a sense of gravitas suitable for business receptions, yet retains the warmth and intimacy essential for home life. What impressed us most was the exceptionally high standard of environmental safety achieved in the final delivery; there were absolutely no residual odors from the very first day of occupancy. Furthermore, the composite structure—combining metal and wood—has demonstrated remarkable stability and resilience in the face of Foshan’s humid climate.” The owners believe that, through the faithful replication of local lifestyles and the rational application of material technology, we have delivered to Foshan’s luxury residential sector a benchmark-setting example of a residence designed for enduring family legacy.
