Case description

As specialists in custom furniture, for the Grand Hyatt Melbourne project, we delivered a comprehensive suite of movable furniture spanning the Executive Lounge, bespoke business suites, and versatile social spaces.

As a landmark property situated in the heart of Melbourne, the hotel’s interior spaces are characterized by a striking metallic luster and bold, geometric lines. The client’s primary challenge lay in establishing a sense of warm equilibrium through furniture within a predominantly cool-toned environment—a space defined by the extensive use of marble and metal finishes. Furthermore, given Melbourne’s status as a major business hub, the furniture required frequent reconfiguration to accommodate meetings of varying scales; consequently, the owner urgently needed a solution to the structural compatibility dilemma posed by combining heavy stone tabletops with lightweight, mobile bases.

We implemented a solution involving structural reinforcement through material hybridization and thermal balance management. For the featured round stone-top tables and metal-framed lounge chairs, we utilized advanced aluminum honeycomb-composite stone technology. This technique allowed us to reduce the marble thickness to a mere few millimeters and bond it to a reinforced aluminum substrate. As a result, the tabletops retained their authentic natural texture while shedding over 60% of their original weight—a significant improvement that dramatically enhanced the efficiency of room setup and breakdown. To counteract the inherent coolness of the materials, we embedded concealed heating elements within the metal frames and incorporated antimicrobial wooden armrests, utilizing “micro-warm-touch” technology to elevate the tactile comfort experience during business negotiations. For the upholstery, we selected highly durable blended fabrics; their soft, textured weave served to visually counterbalance the rigid geometric lines of the surrounding space.

The Grand Hyatt Melbourne operations team provided feedback noting that this furniture collection visually infused the space with a sense of warmth and softness, effectively resolving the long-standing operational challenge associated with the inflexible deployment of heavy furniture. Moreover, through the application of lightweight stone fabrication techniques, the venue’s operational efficiency per square meter saw a significant boost. The owner commended our work, stating that—by precisely controlling material thermal properties and weight—we successfully elevated both the functionality and the sense of luxury within their business spaces to an entirely new dimension.
