Case description
As specialists in bespoke furniture, we delivered a comprehensive suite of custom loose furniture for The Ritz-Carlton, Melbourne—outfitting its Sky Lobby, Cloud Restaurant, and luxury guest rooms.
Situated within one of Australia’s tallest structures, the project presented a core challenge: the rigorous constraints imposed by an extreme high-altitude environment on furniture safety and installation. The client faced a unique pain point: because high-rise buildings undergo minute structural oscillations during strong winds, traditional heavy floor-standing furniture is prone to loosened joinery or audible creaking when subjected to prolonged micro-vibrations. Furthermore, the size limitations of the ultra-high-rise service elevators created immense logistical hurdles for the vertical transport of the large-scale, monolithic furniture pieces envisioned by the designers.
We implemented a solution featuring modular assembly and flexible energy-dissipating structural designs. For the lobby’s grand-scale sectional sofas and artistic console tables, we deconstructed them into multiple precision-engineered modules. By utilizing a combination of traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery and concealed locking mechanisms, we ensured a visually seamless finish upon on-site assembly while facilitating effortless vertical transport via the service elevators. Within the internal framework of the furniture, we embedded specialized rubber vibration-damping pads; these flexible nodes effectively absorb the micro-vibrational energy from the building, thereby preventing structural fatigue and subsequent cracking. The finishes feature rare, dark-hued timbers paired with hand-stitched premium leather, creating a sense of understated elegance that harmonizes with the serene aesthetic of this “cloud-level” space.
The Ritz-Carlton project team offered the following commendation: “You not only resolved the critical logistical bottlenecks associated with vertical transport in ultra-high-rise buildings, but also demonstrated remarkable foresight by engineering the furniture’s physical structure to specifically address the unique characteristics of the architecture.” Since being placed into service, the furniture’s exceptional stability and silent performance have perfectly aligned with the pinnacle of quality that the brand strives to deliver. The property owners regard this bespoke service—rooted in a deep understanding of architectural mechanics—as having established a new technical benchmark for asset management within the luxury high-rise hospitality sector.
